Custom Maple Built-ins with Integrated Perimeter Mantle

The Vision: Following a fireplace renovation, the client sought to frame the hearth with elegant storage units. The challenge was twofold: maximize storage in a fixed footprint and create a display area for a curated "bric-a-brac" collection that would remain safe from the family pets. The client also desired a cohesive look that would unify the fireplace with the rest of the room.

The Craftsmanship: We utilized solid Maple cabinetry, chosen for its smooth grain and ability to take a crisp, high-end painted finish. To achieve a light and airy feel, we integrated large glass-panel doors. To add a touch of architectural sophistication, we accented the upper portions of the glass with custom mullions, providing a timeless, traditional aesthetic.

The Fine Details:

• Seamless Room Integration: The highlight of the project is the layered mantle that spans the entire width of the room. Using precision scribing techniques, we fit the mantle snugly against the back wall and tucked it perfectly under the existing windows for a "built-in" look that appears original to the home.

• Dual-Purpose Storage:

  • Upper Display: Adjustable shelving behind glass allows for protected display of delicate items.

  • Base Storage: Deep drawers in the cabinet bases provide a home for seasonal decor and pet care essentials, keeping everyday items out of sight but within reach.

• Pet-Friendly Design: By utilizing glass panels rather than open shelving, we ensured the client’s collection remained visible while being completely protected from curious pets.
